Anne Boleyn was the Queen of England (1533-1536). She was the second wife of Henry VIII. Anne caught Henry’s eye while serving as a lady-in-waiting to his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. She refused to become his mistress, insisting on marriage. Henry broke with the Catholic Church, establishing the Church of England, with himself as its head. This allowed him to annul his marriage to Catherine and marry Anne in 1533. When she failed to produce a male heir (giving birth to a daughter, Elizabeth, instead), Henry’s affections waned. Anne was accused of adultery, incest and treason, and beheaded on Tower Green within the Tower of London in 1536. Her legacy lives on through her daughter, Elizabeth I, one of England’s most beloved monarchs.
Born Anne Boleyn in ~ 1501-1507, in Norfolk, Englan, UK, and died on May 19, 1536, at the age of ~ 28-35 in London, England, UK.
