
Vlad the Impaler was the Wallachian ruler (1448, 1456โ1462, 1476), also known as Vlad III, Vlad Tepes and Vlad Dracula. He’s infamous for his brutal methods of punishment and execution, particularly impalement, which is where he gets his nickname. His reputation for cruelty and brutality has inspired many stories and legends, including Bram Stoker’s iconic vampire character, Count Dracula.
Born November 14, 1431, in Sighiศoara, Transylvania, Hungary (now Romania), and died in 1476, at the age of 45 in Bucharest, Wallachia (now Romania).
