MacKenzie Scott is an American novelist and philanthropist, best known for being the ex-wife of Amazon’s co-founder Jeff Bezos and her commitment to giving away at least half of her wealth to charity. She studied English at Princeton University, where she was a student of Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, who described Scott as “one of the best students I’ve ever had in my creative writing classes”. Scott published her debut novel, “The Testing of Luther Albright”, in 2005, which won the American Book Award in 2006. Her second novel, “Traps”, was published in 2013. She has given away over $19.3 billion to more than 1,600 charitable organizations as of mid-December 2024. As of July 2025, her net worth is estimated to be $41.9 billion, making her the third-wealthiest woman in the United States.
