Vladimir Lenin was a Russian revolutionary and politician. He’s best known for leading the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 and becoming the first leader of the Soviet Union. Lenin was born into a middle-class family and excelled academically, graduating at the top of his class. His brother Alexander was executed for attempting to assassinate Tsar Alexander III, which significantly influenced Lenin’s revolutionary ideology. He became a Marxist and joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party. Lenin was exiled to Siberia for his activism but continued to write and develop his ideas. He returned to Russia during the Russian Revolution and led the Bolsheviks to power. Lenin became the first head of the Soviet state and implemented policies like nationalizing industry and redistributing land. His ideas, known as Leninism, have had a lasting impact on Marxist theory and the international communist movement. Lenin wrote several influential works, including “What Is to Be Done?” and “Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism”.
Born Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov on April 22, 1870, in Ulyanovsk, Russia (at that time Simbirsk, Russian Empire), and died on January 21, 1924, at the age of 53 in Gorki, Russia.
